Enhydra DODS (Data Object Design Studio) is an open source relational/object mapping tool with a difference. It is a lightweight mapping tool to support persistent relational objects for different database vendors.
Based on XML data model descriptions (DOML files) SQL DDL, sophisticated Java O/R code and documentation (HTML, pdf, XMI) is generated automatically using a generator GUI, by Ant tasks or from within your IDE of choice (using Kelp).
The generated Java code is DB vendor independent. The SQL DDL is DB vendor specific. The generator can be customized by different sets of code templates.
DODS's design and evolution was driven out of real world development experience and thus facilitates the rapid development and deployment of database applications.
The generated Java code provides a lot of possibilities for runtime optimization (DO LRU caching, Query LRU caching, cache initialization, lazyloading,...).
DODS can be used with or without the Enhydra application server.
